Alan and Sharron didn’t want to do things by the book when it came to their wedding, that’s why they decided to go with a romantic elopement in none other than the city of love, Paris!
The Couple
Alan and I met in 2005, he had gone to high school with my cousins, and years later, we saw each other out one night with mutual friends. I was immediately attracted to him because of his sense of humor and we’ve been together ever since!
The Proposal
In September 2014, Alan suggested we take our dog (who is practically our baby), Maggie, to the waterfront in Tarrytown, NY. We walked through the park, and when we got to a pier overlooking the Hudson River, he proposed. It was perfect, as the waterfront is quite beautiful, and I have so many good childhood memories there.
The Elopement
Alan and I love traveling, and always said that when we decided to get married, we would have an intimate ceremony abroad, just the two of us. After nine and a half years together, he finally proposed, and it was time to decide where in the world we would say our vows. Neither of us had been to France yet, and the thought of getting married in a romantic city like Paris, seemed perfect. However, a few weeks before the wedding, I started to get nervous. I was wondering whether the decision was a big mistake. I thought, “This is crazy. Who travels across the globe to get married? We should just stay here, in New York City.” But when we got to Paris, I immediately knew we had made the right decision. I wanted the style of the elopement to be chic. Black and white, with just a pop of pink in the flowers. For my hair and makeup, I requested a retro look. A small bouffant and winged eyeliner.
Our wedding day was absolutely perfect. The weather was beautiful, the backdrops were stunning, and our car was as quirky as I am. I absolutely loved riding through the beautiful streets of Paris, in our 2CV. That car was so quirky and fun. I thought it suited us perfectly. As we were driving around, people on the street would shout congratulations and well wishes at us. It was really charming.
I was rockin’ my dream dress, and I had my amazing man by my side. It was everything I wanted. Intimate, romantic, fun, and quite literally the best day of my life.
