Lyndsey and Kenneth “Kenny” decided on Maui for their coral color schemed destination wedding. The couple tied the knot in an intimate affair on September 28, 2016.
Lyndsey and Kenny met through a mutual friend, hit it off right away, and embarked on a long distance relationship. When they began to discuss marriage, Lyndsey made it clear that when Kenny decided to propose, he should make sure that she has her hair and makeup done and someone there to take pictures. With this in mind, Kenny told Lyndsey that he and has brother had been taking pictures with Santa for their mom for the past 28 years and invited Lyndsey to join them, knowing that she would be ready for a photo op and he would have his brother there to capture the moment. When Santa asked what Lyndsey wanted for Christmas, she gave the perfect answer of “something shiny!” and Kenny took that moment to get down on one knee and ask Lyndsey to be his wife.
They had visited Maui a couple months before their engagement and absolutely fell in love with the island, so they knew it was the perfect place to get married and have a vacation with all of their loved ones. They wanted their wedding to have a fun, tropical feel, so coral was chosen to give a pop of color to the island’s gorgeous natural background of lush greenery, tan sand, and blue ocean.
Lyndsey wore a lightweight Martina Liana dress and barefoot sandals. She says, “I channeled my inner free spirit and went barefoot for the whole wedding. I wore barefoot sandals to avoid feeling too “formal,” and also to help keep myself grounded (literally and figuratively). Everyone always says the wedding goes by so fast, and I wanted to stay truly present. Anytime I started to feel nervous, I just felt the grass under my feet or looked out at the ocean, and I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be in that moment.”
Since Kenny is a firefighter and that is a big part of their lives, a few details were incorporated into the wedding. For her something blue, Lyndsey had a piece of Kenny’s blue uniform fabric sewn in the shape of a heart on her dress. The North Whatcom Fire Department patch was also sewn to the underside of her dress, which she didn’t find out about until the day of the wedding. As a surprise, Kenny wore a necklace with meaningful charms that Lyndsey that given Kenny just to keep in his locker at work. They also brought their new shared last name from Kenny’s uniform to take newlywed pictures with and the firefighter cake topper embellished their simple wedding cake.
