How We Met
Let me start off by saying that I never thought that I would meet my future husband the way that I did! A little over two years ago, the summer before I started my graduate program at the University of Delaware, I was working at a Sam’s Club to save up money before my first semester in the fall. On one of my last days at the store my fiance’s parents and aunt were returning home from a conference and stopped by the store. Nearly every cash register was open, but I happened to smile at them as they walked up to the registers. They came to my line and his dad sparked up a conversation. After a few minutes his aunt asked if I was single and proceeds to talk about her nephew (Kenny) and the possibility of ‘hooking us up.’ While this is taking place his mom and dad search Facebook for a picture of him. At that point I’m thinking “what is wrong with this guy?! Why are his parents trying to hook him up with someone?!” To my surprise he was GORGEOUS, but I didn’t think much of it…assuming that we would never actually meet each other. Before leaving, his aunt gets my cell phone number. About a month later, she reaches out to me about visiting a church since I mentioned the day we met that I was looking for one in the area. I went to church with her and had a great time…Kenny was never discussed. A few weeks later his aunt calls me asking if it is still okay to introduce me to Kenny. I told her it was fine and she introduces us via group text……yes I met my fiance’ via text! Neither of us respond to the text (I wasn’t going to text him first! Lol). The next morning he texts me and from that point we communicated non-stop and went on our first date a week later.
The Proposal
Nearing the end of my graduate program, I was preparing for graduation. A couple of months prior, Kenny starts planning to propose. I now know this because the first person he told was my little sister and bought the ring right after my birthday (April 19th) while I was out of town. While on a trip to Virginia to visit my parents ask for their blessing and show them the ring. Sidenote…I’m SO glad he did because that was super important to my parents and I but I didn’t think he knew that. The plan for my graduation was to have a small party at his mom’s house, which I knew about. After the ceremony my family heads over to the Johnson’s home for the party. Kenny and I stopped by his apartment to grab a change of clothes, then headed over to the house as well. As soon as I walked through the door his entire family (and mine) are all gathered in the foyer. I assumed it was just to congratulate me since only a few could make it to the ceremony. Then he grabs my hand and says something very sweet to me… I can’t even remember because at that point I realized what was happening and the tears were coming. Surrounded our loved ones, he gets down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
Planning The Wedding
I know this is crazy but literally FOUR days after getting engaged I picked out my dress! My mom and I were excited and went dress shopping. The second bridal boutique we went to I saw my dress on a mannequin and knew it was the one. I put it on and I saw the vision of myself on my wedding day that I’ve always dreamed of. A few weeks later my fiance’ and I went to visit the venue that his mom found and fell completely in love with it. It’s a gorgeous mansion up in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. So far we have booked the venue and caterer, chosen our bridal party, and sent out save-the-dates. We are currently in the process of hiring a wedding planner and super excited to plan our dream wedding!
Can’t wait to share the rest with you all!
XOXO,
Taylor
