When He Did the Thing
Hey! My name is Leanna and my future husband is Stephen. We are getting married on September 20, 2018 at the beautiful Sterling Ballroom in new Jersey! Interestingly enough Stephen and I met at my cousins’ engagement party in January of 2012, but didn’t begin dating until a few years after that. He went to college with both my cousin and her now husband. Fast forwarding to a month shy of 5 years later- there we were- ENGAGED!
It had been a really rough patch for the several months leading up to his proposal. I’d been laid off 2 days after my birthday and was denied unemployment. Around the time he proposed I had finally found work and was taking every shift I could get! Stress level was at an ALL-TIME HIGH! We both knew I had a day off approaching so we planned to go to dinner at the restaurant where we had our first date (a place we frequently visit). This day in particular he encouraged me to dress just a little nicer than usual so that we could *wink wink* go to a “day party in the city (NYC) afterward”, I obliged.
We arrive at the restaurant and were seated in the same booth we had our first date in. Next, the manager approaches our table and tells us we need to move to another section of the restaurant because *wink wink* they are about to start construction on the roof above us. I obliged.
We walk to the back of the restaurant and SURPRISE! Some of our closest friends and family awaited with their phones all out recording. “What is everybody doing here?!” is the first thing that came out of my mouth. “Wait, are you doing the thing?!” I say next- and then- floodgates. I’m sure he said lots of amazing things to me before getting on one knee and asking for my hand in marriage but I can’t for the life of me remember what they were. I sobbed a tearful yes and then hugged and kissed MY MAN!
Dinner was followed by an EPIC engagement party with any and everyone there that I love. He managed to completely surprise me. I’m a super anal, Type-A kind of girl but hadn’t the slightest idea that all of this planning was going on! He pulled out all the stops and it felt so good to be on the receiving end of his love.
At this point of the wedding planning we have our venue, photographer and videographer and MY DRESS! Now that we are closing in on our countdown we expect the pace to pick up a bunch. I’m so ready for this ride and I cannot wait to be Mrs. Haynes! I look forward to sharing this journey with you!
