Journal Entry # 3
Almost Mrs. Garcia
I’m officially one month away from marrying the love of my life. Before I take the big “plunge,” let’s backtrack to my amazing bridal shower and all the hurdles in-between. My bridal shower took place on February 25, 2018, and it was an absolute dream; despite some small mishaps. The shower was not a surprise, my controlling and Type A persona needed to know all the details. My sister AKA my Maid of Honor and bridesmaids helped organize and host the shower. To coincide with our “European Glamour” wedding theme, I chose a “Soho Glamour” theme for the shower.
I found the perfect loft venue for my “Soho Glam” themed shower. The loft space had exposed brick walls, open space with an industrial look, hardwood floors, modern lighting, and wall décor. This all sounded great until I received a nightmare of a text message. The event space manager sent a text message the night before my bridal shower saying that I couldn’t have my event due to a fire code violation from the owner of the building. Yes, you read that correctly, my venue was canceled one day before. You could imagine how furious I was- the invitations were mailed, food was prepped, and the décor was selected. An hour later the owner of the loft calls my sister to inform her that he moved our event to a new venue just one block away from the loft location. Without much option and time, we decided to move forward with the new venue. The new place was a typical banquet hall located upstairs from a restaurant lounge.
The Big Day
My Bridal Shower was finally here! Despite the new venue location, I still wanted to make the best out of the day. As I walked into the venue, I was instantly stunned. My sister and my bridesmaids did a phenomenal job giving me a beautiful bridal shower. They executed my “Soho Glam” theme with perfection. I knew exactly what to expect for the decor but seeing everything together was magnificent. There were photos from our engagement photo shoot all over the room, but my favorite was the treats table. My bridesmaid Melisa made all the treats and cake (check out her Instagram page @mell_cakes). The cake and treats were displayed on silver and gold pillars and themed around a marble and gold design. Everything was so yummy and beautiful. Beside the table was my chair, it wasn’t a typical throne chair, this chair was a metal canopy-style gold chair with a crystal-studded white seat! The shower activities included games like find the groom, toilet paper wedding dress design, and a game called “How Well Do You Know Your Significant Other” that I played with my fiancé. At the end of the night the guests each received a personalized small marble octagon shaped box filled with candies as favors.
I enjoyed myself at my shower, and I wish I had more time to spend with all the guests. Everything about that day was perfect. I am genuinely grateful to everyone who has worked tirelessly throughout the day and night to make my day special.
Next up, My Bachelorette party in Cartagena, Colombia! See you soon and check out a few snaps from my amazing shower below!
