It wasn’t hard to tell that this engagement shoot was going to be amazing right from the start. I mean, when your client shows up wearing a hat from your favorite hat designer, Goorin Bros, you know it’s going to be a good day!

These two were a super sweet and genuine couple which made capturing their affection for each other an easy task.

Samantha and Chris wanted to start their adventure off at South Congress Hotel which provided an opportunity for some fun and genuine moments. Ben & Molly Photography loved capturing them at the bar enjoying a drink together. It’s the perfect depiction of everyday love, something that can be easily overlooked, but doesn’t get enough attention! And who can shoot at the South Congress Hotel without getting some eye catching shots outside in front of the iconic, tiled signage of the Central Standard Bar and Grill!?

From there they headed over to Laguna Gloria to get some undeniably epic and inspiring golden hour shots.

The pair plan to wed this fall.

We were both working in Chicago in the ad industry, and a mutual friend from work thought we’d make a great pair because we both love dance music. She pieced together that we all had tickets to a DJ show at a club and suggested we meet up at the show. Our introduction involved strobe lights, 3D glasses and loud trance music so needless to say we didn’t really get to know each other that first night, but we made plans to meet for a happy hour a couple of weeks later in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. After many lunch dates and DJ shows, we made it official in June 2013. It’s safe to say that music brought us together.

We were on vacation in London prior to meeting up with Samantha’s family in France and decided to treat ourselves to martinis and a seafood tower on our last night. The restaurant we chose was next to Hyde Park, so Chris suggested we go for a sunset walk through the park before dinner. Chris’ sudden interest in parks and leisurely strolls was somewhat suspicious to Samantha, but she went along with it. While walking through the Kensington Gardens, Chris got down on one knee and made things official just 6 days before our 5 year anniversary (and 6 days before Samantha’s mother was planning to take matters into her own hands).

Samantha has always loved vintage jewelry and knew for a long time that she wanted her engagement ring to be vintage-inspired. When it came time to look for a ring, Chris asked Samantha to share some inspiration photos to start the process. Chris did a lot of research on jewelers in the Austin area and really clicked with the team at Calvin’s Fine Jewelry. Together, they designed the engagement ring which features a princess cut diamond tilted at an angle to appear as a diamond.
