The inspiration for this Fall Boho Minimony wedding shoot came from the transition in seasons from Summer to Fall. The changing leaves and moody weather helped shape a rich color palette with rust orange, sage green, mauve, cream, and hints of brown and gold. When DC-area Wedding Planner, Courtney-Rose Dantus of Dantus & Co. Events initially approached Geneva Washington of Images By Geneva about the shoot, they both agreed that it was important as Black wedding creatives to feature a Black couple in the shoot. Representation matters and celebrating Black love and joy felt particularly meaningful to them during a time marked by increased calls for racial justice and equity.
The shoot took place at Main Street Ballroom, a historic building with modern finishes and a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces in downtown Ellicott City, Maryland. All vendors were encouraged to bring their own creative spin to the shoot. Beyonka Designs’ impressive free-standing floral designs featured stalks of pampas grass, cattails, and an array of roses. The bride’s off-shoulder dress, with geometric cutouts from Lael Rentals and the groom’s golden tux jacket from The Black Tux, offered a striking balance of bohemian and luxe vibes. Oh Eleven Studio included natural elements like wood, leather, and dried flowers in the invitation and place card designs. Leona Emm Beauty highlighted the natural beauty of our bride and custom engagement ring from Secrete Jewelry and tassel earrings from AncHERed Linx and a leather jacket custom-designed by Kimberly George Art rounded out the bride’s look. Something Vintage Rentals provided rentals that seamlessly tied together with the ceremony and receptions spaces and Angyono Cakes’ ornate cake design featuring handmade sugar flowers that complimented the color palette and added a sweet touch to the shoot. Because many couples don’t want to limit themselves to just one look, the shoot ended with the bride in a one-shoulder jumpsuit and fedora with lots of boho flair. The couple toasted under the stars with cocktails provided by mobile wine bar, Palate Mobile Wine Bar.
What made the shoot most special was that it featured a real couple. At the time of the shoot, Noel and Kanandi had just celebrated their first anniversary, which made the day all the more special and meaningful. Just looking at these photos you can see their love radiate.
