Smith Farms Gardens is one of Connecticut’s newest wedding venues.  The venue was a private residence originally built in 1778 and up until recently was still a private home and working, organic farm. The home owners renovated the main house this year and decided to start hosting weddings and events. Alyssa Johnson, the event planner for the shoot, approached the family about doing a styled shoot to showcase the new property. The lush gardens and perfectly manicured grounds lent themselves wonderfully to the theme of the shoot – a whimsical wedding in Wonderland.

All the pieces featured in the shoot are unique – the vintage cake dresser and rustic table were custom built for this shoot by Steve Martins, owner of The Rustic Barn using reclaimed wood. The vintage teapots, china plates and chairs were all collected from estate sales around Connecticut to feature in this shoot. We really wanted to stay away from using common rental items and spent a lot of time hand-picking custom, original pieces that fit with the theme. Future brides that are looking for a vintage style can see how sourcing their own mix & match pieces can create a fun, whimsical look. We also combined some modern rental pieces (such as the glassware and white plates) with the vintage to combine both old and new.
