Nine years ago, in a high school not so far away, a teenage romance was brewing, Nick and Anita met during their senior year of high school and once they locked eyes, the rest was history. The couple is set to walk down the aisle next year in a big fat Indian wedding in New York, with a reception the following week in St. Lucia, sounds fun right?!

We got the chance to hear about the couple’s courtship and engagement from the Bride-to-Be herself, grab your tissues and check it out below!

“I strolled into my third period English class one sunny September morning. It was senior year, graduation was on the horizon and thus yours truly was already mentally clocked out. I hated this particular class so I sat as close to the door as humanly possible. You know, in case I had to escape the boring lectures of Hamlet. And yet, the REAL reason I hated this class was because a handful of the high school jocks took it as well and they made sure they were loud enough to make their presence known.  Now, you’re thinking, “Okay this girl definitely wasn’t one of the popular kids”. And you’d be right, cause I damn sure wasn’t. People never believe me when I say this but I was actually a very socially awkward person who kept to myself. I could’ve probably counted the amount of friends I had on one hand.
So on this specific day, I of course was bored and lost in thought so I glanced over to the group of hooligans fooling around in the back row of the class and happened to lock eyes with this one guy sitting in the middle of them. You know that hot and bothered feeling you get sometimes? I’m talking about the one that makes you a little panicky. That feeling. Yeah, that was me times a million.  Remember when I told you I was socially awkward? Yes, well I wasn’t kidding. I avoid social interactions of all kinds at all cost.  So when this cute guy looked at me, I could feel myself turn red. You’re thinking, “Ah, this is it! This is how she meets Prince Charming!” Sorry Aphrodite, but that did not happen. Half a millisecond later I realized he has to be one of the jocks, which would mean he’s more than likely a jerk. So there goes the end of THAT panic attack.

Wrong. The very next day in that same class, I go to my usual seat by the door only to see some big headed kid sitting in front of me. I was ANNOYED because he was practically blocking the white board, you know, not that I was paying attention anyway, but it’s the principle! So for a full four minutes I cursed the Godzilla head in front of me. Now Godzilla decided to turn around and all hell broke loose because he was suddenly that cute jock from the day prior. Once again, he looked directly at me and I didn’t know what to do with myself. He smiled that cute, jocky smile and I reciprocated.

Hey, can I borrow a pencil?” He asked.
*cue the fireworks*
He had me at “Hey.”

That lending of pencils led to us sparking conversation and then, before I knew it, we were talking constantly as if we were best friends, then began dating and then…the rest was history. I honestly believe we became what the other person needed. I needed someone to help break me out of my social awkwardness and no one was more perfect than the captain of the baseball team. He needed someone to listen to him and never make him doubt himself and who better than the socially awkward girl who used to sit by the door who would rather listen than speak?

He is my best friend and the only person that I feel completely at ease with. I’m his other half, his biggest fan and his loudest cheerleader. We aren’t perfect people or have a perfect relationship but I do want you to know that he makes me a better person every single day. He’s the one who taught me to be comfortable in my own skin and even though he probably regrets making me into the conceited person I am today, I know he’s more proud of me than I am of me. Believe me, opposites do attract and marrying your best friend is what I hope everyone has the opportunity to do.

So when he got down on one knee on June 30th 2017 in Barbados and asked me to marry him, I ugly cried in front of our closest friends and family because nothing would make me happier than spending the rest of my life with Nicholas Ram.
He’s the reason I’m out here living my best life and writing this blog post has made me realize that the best thing I have ever done in my entire life is loan him that pencil.

P.S. He still owes me that pencil.
