After a surprise proposal in Nassau, Bahamas Sheena and Wardell are set to wed this October in Mobile, Alabama for an elegant premier style wedding! Please read as bride to be Sheena details their journey to the altar.
In March 2014, Wardell moved to Mobile, Alabama to attend The Cardiac and Vascular Institute of Ultrasound, and one of his school requirements was a get a Tuberculosis skin test. In April 2014, on a day that I was technically not scheduled to work (but I came in to finish some paperwork), Wardell came into my clinic. The moment I laid eyes on him I had a feeling that overcame me that I had never felt before, I don’t believe in love at first sight but I do believe it was God nudging me to pay attention. He came back two days later to have his test read, and as he sat, he made small talk to catch my attention and then he left. He must have felt something too, because he circled the parking lot, walked back inside, and he politely asked me for my number (like a gentleman). Being the professional that I am I couldn’t just give him my number (as he would say I gave him a rehearsed corporate response) and I told him that I had his contact info and I could call him.
The Proposal
For my birthday on 9/5/15 Wardell told me we were going on a trip and to get ready, but he would not tell me where we were going. He totally surprised me. We caught a plane from Pensacola to Miami and then from Miami to the port to travel on the Carnival Cruise to Nassau, Bahamas! The trip alone was amazing and I was so grateful to experience so many first all at once. While in Nassau, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was overjoyed and all I could do was cry, but for the first time I really understood what tears of joy felt like and I couldn’t have imagined another person I trusted as much to share my life with.
Our Wedding
The date has been set for October 8th, 2016 at the Azalea Manor in downtown Mobile, Alabama. Our wedding colors are royal blue, purple, and aqua which are inspired by our wedding flower, the Dendrobium Orchid. We will have a premiere styled wedding #PremieringthePearsons with a very elegant atmosphere and a red carpet area for pictures for our guest to enjoy. Since Wardell is a praise and worship leader and I am a praise dancer we will incorporate that into our ceremony. There will be a male soloist that will sing BeBe Winans – “I Found Love” and a female praise dancer to perform to Maurette Brown Clark – “The One He Kept For Me”. Finally the “feature presentation” will be the ceremony and exchange of vows.
Wedding Planning Woes
I would say the biggest pitfalls of wedding planning are time management, having no previous knowledge of how much a wedding truly costs, and learning how quickly a budget can grow. I really thank God for my career because it allows me to go in my office, close the door and if I need an hour or two just to make phone calls or send emails, I can. Also in the middle of wedding planning I moved 5 hours to Huntsville, Alabama so Wardell and I could be together, I remember when I first moved everyone told me I shouldn’t because it was going to be impossible to plan our wedding. However everything is coming along fine!
Advice for Future Coordinated Brides
The best advice I can give is to set daily goals to get at least one thing accomplished at a time. With self-determination and favor from God, there is nothing you can’t do!
