THE MEETING

On a beautiful winter day in 2014, I received a text message from Radha (my cousin-in-law) saying that she found the perfect guy for me! Radha asked if I could recall the Christmas party I attended with her while visiting Georgetown, Guyana. I said yes, Radha then told me that her friend’s (Andrew) brother inquired about me after seeing our picture uploaded onto Andrew’s Facebook page. Andrew’s brother (Anthony) was inquisitive about the strange girl who was at his house in Guyana. It was a new face he’d never seen before. Anthony reached out to Radha asking for information about me. Radha then reached out to me and said Anthony fits my criteria for what I like in a man. Her exact words to me were “he’s tall, nice teeth and clean nails.” I said ooh, and she continued to tell me about him, and finally I agreed to exchange contact details.

I reached out to Anthony via text message. We began chatting over phone calls, text messages and Face-time the following few weeks. We discussed everything in our lives; our past, our future, and what we wanted. Soon after I was eventually convinced, we went on our first date on January 6, 2014. At first, I was hesitant to give my address to Anthony since I never met him before, so I decided to give him my sister’s address (LOL). When Anthony called and told me he was about 10 minutes away, I then said that wasn’t my address and proceed to give him my correct address. Anthony and I hit it off immediately. Anthony is disarmingly affable, charming, smart, and is one of the sweetest guys around. I was struck by how alarmingly right it felt and how natural our dynamic was. He was amazed at how comfortable and happy I was with him. Over time we grew to enjoy the company of one another more and more. We fell in love with each other, and now here we are planning our next journey in life!

THE PROPOSAL

Anthony and I talked about marriage and knew without a shadow of a doubt that we were going to get married. It only came down to the guessing game of when Anthony was going to pop the question. I kept guessing and asking him many times; he would just smile and say you just have to wait.

We planned a trip to Bali for my birthday, and I didn’t think anything of it as we talked about going to Bali for my birthday for a while. Anthony arranged a private dinner on the beach. I figured this was because we agreed to have my birthday dinner in Bali since we were both busy the week leading up to our trip. As we arrived at the beach entrance and walked towards the gazebo, I noticed a photographer snapping pictures of us. I smiled and didn’t think much of it. I assumed it was a couples shoot for my 30th birthday.

We walked closer to the gazebo, and I noticed candles lit in a heart shaped laying on the sand. As I got closer, I saw written out in the sand “WILL YOU MARRY ME,” I turned around, and Anthony was on one knee. He gently grabbed my hand and said “Chandra, ever since we met, I knew you were the woman I’ve waited my life for. I can’t think of anyone else I would want to spend the rest of my life with, WILL YOU MARRY ME?” With tear-filled eyes, I exclaimed “YES”! I was so overjoyed and ecstatic.

Anthony slipped the ring on my finger, and we stood there hugging one another. After the shock had worn off, we started our dinner and couldn’t stop smiling and hugging each other. Pure and honest love was in the air – it was one of the best moments for the two of us!

Progress

We are about 90% confirmed with all of our wedding plans for the Hindu Wedding in NJ and Christian Wedding in Guyana. We started planning around April of this last, and so far it’s been great. I have enjoyed every moment planning our wedding with our family and look forward to every moment the future holds for us. We are confirming our caterer by the end of this month, and once we have that confirmed, we’ll be finished with all wedding plans. We just have to sit back and relax till August 2017!
