Will You Be My Party?
“Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who wants you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and love you no matter what.”- Unknown
You would think growing up as an only child it would be boring right? Wrong. Although I grew up with no siblings from my mother, God blessed me with “sis-sins” – sister/cousins. They are Morgan, Monteshia, Noelle and Deverae. Since I can remember, I have always had them around. Playing with and fighting over Barbies and clothes, hanging at the skating rink, and spending the night/weekend over each others houses. We’ve all stuck it out the way REAL sisters would.
As I grew older, during my adolescent years, I met new people but none of those friendships seemed to last. Until my “sis-sin” Morgan introduced me to her new friends, Angie and Alexis. They were solid from the start and a new unbreakable bond formed.
Fast forwarding to the day I met Lance. I figured that I would fall in love with this stylish, smooth talking guy but I didn’t expect to have fallen in love with his family. They were chilled, laid back, a little different than what I was accustomed to, but real nonetheless. Now, my sisters-in-law (Joy &Talia) and cousin-in-law (Marisa) are really my “sistas” and “cuz” without the “in law” part.
When Lance and I became friends, his friends literally became my friends. That’s how I met the cool, organized and passionate Selam. She started out as my homie’s girlfriend and now she is one of my closest friends. God has truly blessed me with an AMAZING band of females. I am truly thankful for ALL of their friendships.
So now I’ve told you guys about these EXTRAORIDINARY females in my life, you now know why I could not make it down the isle, without these ladies by my side.
Here’s how I proposed.
I sent them all a random invitation in the mail to meet at my house. Timing was horrible on my part so some were not able to attend. When they walked in, there were pink balloons surrounding the floor of my apartment. Next to the balloons was a small table that had a sign. It read, “ Hello Ladies! Find a box with your initials, grab a glass and make yourself comfortable. P.S DON’T OPEN IT!!!!”
I created a playlist of all of the different genres of music that they liked (r&b, rap, “trap”, reggae and soca) but I think no one noticed lol. On my tv, I had a slideshow of all the pictures I could find with us on them and it read “I love you”.
After eating and throwing around speculation, I finally asked the girls to open their boxes. The first step was to read the sticker inside, then open the insert and then take out the gift. I wasn’t super emotional but anxious. When they finally opened them I was relieved that they all accepted!
After, I gave them a brief breakdown of what’s in store and we then took a couple pictures with the Instagram frame. Everyone seemed to enjoy the gesture and I was delighted that they did.
Until next time….
XO, Candice
