As a young girl I dreamed of my wedding… The day that I would wear an all-white glamorous dress, draped in lace and crystals, adorned in the best of best while I’m gawked at by all of my family and friends!! I had this entire vision in my head, right down the music that we would dance to and the sweet aroma that the flowers gave in the air.
As my long time committed relationship developed, my dream became even more vivid. The details become more specific and the anticipation for this magical day grew even more. We had been together for almost six years and our love was definitely the real deal. There was no doubt about it that this was the man I wanted to make my husband, the father to my children, and the place filler in my dream husband at my dream wedding that I had in my head. When I envisioned my first dance at my over-the-top wedding day fantasy it was no longer just a silhouette of a man in my mind, it was now him…. Now all I needed was a ring!
Our engagement day was beautiful and magical to say the least. I always dreamed of how it would go and fantasized about what he would say and how I would react, but nothing compared to the day when it all happened. When he appeared, got down on one knee and proceeded to ask for my hand in marriage, I was on cloud nine!! All of my prefixed ideas went out the window and all that mattered was this moment. I wish I could’ve stayed on that cloud forever…..Because now I’m back down to earth and reality has hit me like a truck!!!
Chris and I started our love story over 5 years ago and the day Chris asked me to be his wife, was the most beautiful day of my life!!! Chris planned it to the T and he couldn’t have done a better job. I had recently accepted a new job, which was long awaited after tireless searches to secure better employment following getting my master’s degree in public health. My Friday was so easy breezy; I went to the gym in the morning, spent hours at the mall, spent some time with my grandmother who is getting older and has been waiting for me to marry, followed by dinner and drinks with my sisters. My older sister Juliet planned the whole thing to celebrate my new job, so we got all dolled up for a good time at a restaurant in the Hollywood Hills with a view of the city. Little did I know, she had something else up her sleeve! As I sat at the table my sister presented me with a large gift box that she said was a congratulatory gift. I opened the box to find a heart-shaped box inside, then opened that to find a smaller heart-shaped box, then a smaller box, then a smaller box (by this time I started to get nervous because I just knew that this production was not put on by my sister), then the last box was a small little blue Tiffany’s box!!! I froze. Then all of a sudden Chris was behind me and my heart was beating uncontrollably. He took the box from my hand and proceeded to get down on one knee and ask for my hand in marriage and I said yes!!! New job and now this!!!
Our love story has now entered into another chapter and I am so excited to get married, have kids, and spend the rest of my life with my best friend, my partner, and the love of my life!!!
Our engagement photo shoot portrays the concepts of our urban and chic Los Angeles lifestyle and love story. Photos were taken on November 2, 2014.
We did our engagement photos in 3 seperate sections. These images from the park show off our playful and laid back side. The rooftop shoot was taken in downtown Los Angeles with the city skyline behind us. We met and live in Los Angeles and wanted to display our love for one another with the love of our city.
I thought that the hard part was getting Chris to marry me but I am now learning that the real work is planning this wedding, staying on budget, and to not drive each other crazy in the process!! I have utilized wedding resources, blogs, websites, Instagram, and the advice from former brides like Jules and The Coordinated Bride!!
I am having fun and trying not get overwhelmed while planning our Nigerian/American cross-cultural and grand wedding celebration. Follow my journey as I plan my wedding, search for tips and tricks, and soak of every moment being a Feyoncé and a #BudgetedBride!!!
The formal portion of our engagement shoot was taken at Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Chris is a singer and musician and wanted to capture this in our photos. This shoot is for the romantic and elegant side of our relationship.
