Live Laugh Love – Satorie’s Kitchen Shower

Bridal shower: Showering you today with wishes for a lifetime of love and happiness!

One thing is for sure, I am the easiest person to surprise, because I am the most unobservant person you could ever meet. While the planning of my bridal shower was happening around me, I was oblivious to the whole thing. For instance, my mom was the mastermind behind the theme of the shower; I used her phone one evening, but unbeknownst to me there was an opened conversation my mom was having with Gina, my Maid of Honor, that I didn’t even notice. Or how about the day before my shower, I jumped in the passenger seat of a friend’s car, while my shower gift was sitting in the back seat, which is where I normally would sit. So as you can see, I am the easiest person to fool. Some may call it gullibility, others may say I’m naive – but me….I simply call it just minding my own damn business….lol

In a panic that my third blog installment was soon approaching, I contacted Jules and mentioned that I wouldn’t be able to produce a post in time because I hadn’t yet had my shower. I guess you can say that I have a sixth sense because my shower was held the very next day!

Here’s how it all went down:

Anyone who really and truly knows me, knows that cooking is my least favorite thing to do. Luckily, I was blessed to have a man who doesn’t mind cooking for us and our two sons. But don’t be fooled, I can cook, I just don’t like to!!! So here is where the theme for my shower was born – Satorie’s Kitchen Shower!

The “Bait”

‘How did they trick me’ you may ask – well as I mentioned above, I am the easiest person to fool, but this lie actually had a bit of truth behind it. A good friend of mines is pregnant and invited me to attend her baby shower. Driving to the “baby shower”, still oblivious to it all, it wasn’t until we pulled into the parking lot that I managed to piece it all together. I have a photogenic memory when it comes to car license plate numbers (we have 5 digit plate numbers here in Bermuda). I noticed Gina’s car IMMEDIATELY! Gina being my BFF and MOH, that is a given right there that her plate number is one I know by heart. So we exit my mom’s car and proceed to the door, car after car after car, I’m recognizing more car plate numbers that certainly would not be attending the same baby shower that I am. DUH! IT’S MY OWN SHOWER THAT I AM ATTENDING!

The Décor

The centerpiece of my table contained a bouquet of balloons tied to a hand mixer inside of a mixing bowl, while the centerpieces of the guest tables contained a cup filled with kitchen utensils (a whisk, mixing spoon, and rubber spatula just to name a few). Cute right?!

After greeting all my guests, I was seated at my table – with Gina and Sherkyta by my side. No one believes that I am a shy person and this day proved it. I am frightened to have “all eyes on me” – oh gosh, how will I make out on the day of my wedding?!?!

The Games

The first game we played was a table group game which involved passing around a wrapped box from person to person based on certain criteria. For example, ‘pass this to the shortest person sitting at your table’. The last question informed that whoever had the box last was the winner and the centerpiece on their table was theirs to keep. Game #2 involved getting to know Damien and me on a more personal level. Damien was asked a series of questions prior to the shower to which I now had to answer. For every wrong answer I gave, I had to pop a bubble gum in my mouth. What a task this was! Not only was this gum hard to chew, it literally goes stale 2.5 seconds after chewing it. So the questions start, and I think I have this in the bag – he knows me, I know him – simple right? WRONG! Out of the 10 questions, I only got 1.5 right. Needless to say, my jaw was TIGHT when the game concluded. Game #3 was a simple guessing name – how many Hershey’s Kisses were in the jar. The answer – 122 Kisses. Tenille, the friend that I “stole” from Damien, originally guessed 118 (thinking #18 as Damien’s favorite number) but scratched it out and wrote 88. While her sister, who was sitting beside her, guessed 120 Kisses and was the winner! I guess it was that ‘sister intuition’.

The Gifts

As the invitations stated, this was a kitchen party, as a result my kitchen will sure get a good use out of me. I was gifted with so many goodies that I honestly cannot wait to get my hands dirty. A promise I made to all in attendance. From a cookie press coupled with a “cookie book” and cookie sheets galore; I’m ready for my son’s next bake sale for sure! Crock pots and Pyrex dishes, I will be sure there are plenty left over dishes to stock my fridge for those busy evenings after work. The wedding invitations also instructed the guests to bring one of their favorite recipes to fill the recipe box at the shower. It was an honor and a blessing reading everyone’s favorite meals – which I will prepare using my new kitchen toys 😉

I had a blast catching up with cousins, aunts and friends, some of which I haven’t seen in a long time! And the countdown continues, 26 days until I become Mrs. Satorie J. Baxter!
